Home remedies for eosinophilic asthma
Eosinophilic asthma is a type of asthma linked to high levels of white blood cell levels known as eosinophils. Eosinophils, or white blood cells, help the body fight off diseases, sometimes through swelling. However, such swelling, especially in the airways, can lead to severe asthmatic problems. Some medications try to bring down the swelling. However, we recommend some home remedies along with medications to boost your recovery from any existing asthmatic symptoms.
Balanced healthy meals
There is no specific way in which foods must be eaten to control asthma. However, being overweight can lead to several health problems, including those linked to breathing. Eating balanced portions every day and including fruits and vegetables is the best way to go. Fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants, such as beta-carotene and vitamin C and E, which can significantly help reduce inflammation and the risk of asthma flare-ups.
Dust-free environments
Allergens are often common culprits when it comes to triggers for asthma flare-ups. These allergens include dust and pollen. So, by cleaning your home regularly (preferably with a vacuum cleaner), you can ensure minimal risk from allergens. You must also consider wearing a mask while cleaning to avoid breathing in the dust and accidentally triggering a flare-up.
Lavender essential oil
Lavender oil has proven beneficial when it comes to dealing with symptoms of asthma. Based on research, breathing diffused lavender oil can help reduce inflammation linked to certain allergies. Such an effect can help regulate the symptoms of asthma. However, it is essential to speak with a doctor before trying out any such lavender-based products.
Breathing exercises
Studies show that certain breathing exercises can improve the symptoms of asthma; these exercises will also complement mental well-being. A few exercises to reduce hyperventilating include breathing through the nose, controlled holding of breath, and breathing at a slower pace.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is a form of meditation that helps concentrate on how the mind and body feel in the moment. All you need to do is find a quiet place to sit in a cozy place, shut your eyes, and focus on your thoughts, sensations, and feelings. When coupled with medications, the process may help relieve stress, which, in turn, can reduce the symptoms related to asthma.
Medications
Other than home remedies, these medications are usually recommended to help reduce symptoms of asthma.
Tezepelumab (Amgen®) (AstraZeneca)
Tezepelumab, a medication being developed by Amgen® and AstraZeneca, is the first Biologic administered to fight asthma symptoms. It helps treat people who are affected by severe and uncontrolled forms of asthma. While it has proved effective in treating such conditions, the medication is still under the microscope and yet to be made available to larger audiences.
Mepolizumab (Nucala)
Nucala is an add-on prescription maintenance treatment for patients who are six years and older. It is meant for those with severe eosinophilic asthma. Keep in mind; the medication is not to be used to treat sudden breathing problems. Based on a doctor’s recommendation, the 100mg/ml mediation is administered at the doctor’s office or at home.
